KUBA

Born in Łódź, Poland, multi-instrumentalist Jakub "Kuba" Kawnik (pronounced YAH-koob "KOO-bah" KAHV-neek) has been playing on different instruments since he was 4 years old. Although he is probably best known for his performance on vibraphone, using a specialized 4-mallet technique, he has also mastered the incredibly difficult theremin. In addition, he plays drums, marimba, percussion instruments, piano, guitar, violin, kalimba, flute and handsaw.

Kuba's live concerts are highly entertaining, taking the audience on an unpredictable journey, incorporating classical numbers as well as standards and the usual with some not-so-usual instruments. Audiences are not only intrigued with and amazed by his outstanding musicality and skill, but also his unassuming and charming personality.  They come away with the feeling that not only were they entertained and enlightened, but they also got to know and experience an up-and-coming gifted and unique talent.

Classically trained at the Academy of Music in Łódź, Poland, Kuba later studied at the acclaimed Jazz Institute of Katowice under the direction of Bernard Maseli. He has played with the Warsaw Philharmonic and Łódź Philharmonic as well as for specials on Polish television.

Away from Poland he has concerted in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Norway and Russia. A frequent headliner on cruise lines such as Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Norwegian, Celebrity, Cunard, Oceania, Silversea and Crystal, he has performed for extensive international crowds. In addition to recording two CD's playing vibraphone which include very famous and beautiful melodies of the Jazz, soundtrack and classical genres, Kuba has just released a brand new album titled "Flying Home", which includes songs on the theremin and kalimba as well as the MalletKat electronic vibraphone.

He now calls Nashville, Tennessee, home where he lives with his wife, acclaimed musical theatre actress & vocalist Rebecca Lowe and their daughter Rozalia.

"Dear Rebecca & Kuba, What a wonderful show last night. In the seven years of The Heritage Ranch Concert Series, you have topped all previous performers. Comments by the audience after the show were enthusiastic. You kept this audience of senior citizens glued to their seat for an hour and forty minutes. That's a first. Again, thank you for a superb evening." -  Paul Woods - Chairman Heritage Ranch Concert Committee
